OzBosco 2020 has been Cancelled

In consultation with schools and communities, Salesian Youth Ministry has made the decision to cancel OzBosco 2020 as a safety measure in relation to the coronavirus pandemic. Of course, we are incredibly saddened by this decision, but are confident that it is the best thing we can do to look after each other and safeguard the health and wellbeing of our Salesian communities at this time. Given the uncertainty around the coronavirus situation and the busyness of school schedules, we will not be rescheduling OzBosco for 2020.

Over the coming weeks, we will need to re-think what Salesian Youth Ministry will look like this year. We have already drawn upon our creativity to float ideas like creating online resources, webinars or live streams to engage our young people all around Australia and do something to promote the connectivity of our schools and communities under the banner of the Australian Salesian Youth Movement.

I will be calling for ideas from all of you and others – we would like to know what kinds of things would be useful or enjoyable given the current restrictions on in-person gatherings. I know you will all be busy getting through day to day for now, but if the time and space for some creativity should arise, I would love to hear your thoughts on how we can supplement OzBosco and other youth ministry activities this year.

Most importantly, it is good to remind ourselves that while all these very overwhelming things are happening around us, like the cancelling of events and programs, the reality for most of us is far brighter than it may seem. Together, by being extra careful and taking preventive measures, we will get through this strange time. Supporting each other and looking after our own needs has never been more important!
