Salesian Youth Ministry

What is SYM?

The Salesian Youth Movement is a global community who follow the teachings, charism and spirituality of Don Bosco. All Salesian youth groups and activities in the Australia-Pacific Province are members of this community.
 

Don Bosco believed in the innate goodness of all young people and committed his life to their human and spiritual growth.
 

We foster in young people, through various activities, programs, gatherings and events the values and ideals dear to Don Bosco’s heart: to evangelise and to educate, to form ‘Good Christians and Honest Citizens’.

We follow Don Bosco’s method and spirituality of the Preventive System, based on three essential characteristics – Reason, Religion and Loving Kindness. 

We use Don Bosco’s four criteria developed at the first Oratory at Valdocco:

-A Home that welcomes

-A Parish that evangelises

-A School that prepares for life

-A Playground where friends meet and enjoy themselves
 

We form young people and leaders in Salesian Youth Spirituality; ‘Yes to Life which has as its foundation:

-Meeting God in daily life

-Joy, hope and optimism

-Friendship with Jesus

-Church and Community

-Responsible Service

-Mary our Model

SYM welcomes all young people to participate in our various groups, activities and events.
